Chapter 6
PCI Hot Plug Technology
This chapter provides a brief discussion of PCI Hot Plug technology. For more
detailed information, refer to the online PCI Hot Plug Administration Guide
and the PCI Hot Plug animation provided on the Documentation CD.
Compaq ProLiant DL580 servers support PCI Hot Plug capabilities. This
technology works with the operating system to provide the capacity for
performing hardware operations while the server is active.
■ Hot replacement of adapters
Replace a failed adapter with an identical adapter without powering
down the server.
■ Hot addition of adapters
Install new PCI expansion boards in previously empty slots without
powering down the server.
■ Hot upgrade of adapters
Replace an adapter with a different adapter without powering down the
server.
